Our Impressions of Turf Moor

Turf Moor offers away seating for 4125 fans within the all seated Cricket Field Stand. The view and legroom are pretty good as this was one of the most modern stands in the country when it was erected in the seventies. The seats are made from wood and the rake big enough for knee room. When this stand opened it was the first in the country to have central heating installed with hot pipes under the seats. They have never been used, even when it was for home fans !

There are only two small stanchions to spoil the view, and these are away from the centre of the pitch.

There are several snack bars, and at the last check, beer was still not being served. The toilets are fairly basic and this is now the oldest of the stands in the ground, and the one at the top of a £10M redevelopment plan once the Cricket Club to the rear can be relocated.

Burnley now have pies supplied by Hollands and they are pretty good with a well deserved reputation.

There are some areas designated as away parking, but seeing I've never been an away fan there I've never seen them, but they are well sign posted.

Car Parking

As you approach the town centre you will see the signs for home and away parking. The away fans are 'encouraged' to park at Burnley cricket club on Belvedere Road, while home fans park on Fulledge Recreation Ground.
There is also ample street parking for those who do not fancy the above. But if you do this then I would recommend that you remove ALL hanging strips, scarves and any other club slogans/colours that you may have in your car, as there have been some problems with damaged cars.

The official away parking is a pay and display car park on Centenary Way, next to the Bus Station. It is quite a big car park but spaces do go fast.

There is limited parking on Ormerod Road, this is about a minute drive up the road in the opposite direction of the ground, next to the Fire Station. When you reach the Fire Station on the right hand side, turn right immediately after it. This is where the away fans coaches will be parked.

Cash Machines

Sainbury's has moved now to Old Prestige Factory Building, about 10 mins walk away and very near to the Sparrow Hawk Hotel. The old store is now at discount clothing store so the cash points has been removed. Alternatively, the town centre is a 10 minute walk.

Disabled Facilities at Turf Moor

Away disabled supporters are located within the Cricket Field Stand, with space for 20 disabled supporters and 20 helpers. All disabled supporters are granted free entry to Turf Moor in every game and their helper will pay a £12 (2001-2002) entry fee. Parking for disabled away supporters is available in Belvedere Road, near to the Fire Station. Toilet facilities are excellent, with easy access disabled toilets available.

The Sparrowhawk

Mik Stevens has emailed us and says 'The Sparrowhawk Pub located on Church Street on North Side of town about 15 mins walk away from ground. Popular with Local Fans and Away Fans alike. Good chat, good food (Pie, Peas and Gravy at 1.95). Can get very crowded. Best beer in the town, with Moorhouses Premier, Pendle Witches Brew and a multitude of guest cask beers and foreign bottle lager.

The Cricket Clubhouse

Located behind the away stand, is also open on matchdays and welcomes visiting fans.

The Mercury Tavern

Located on the corner of Todmorden Road, is also popular with visiting fans and serves cheap food.
