Our Impressions of Ninian Park
Ninian Park has had a major face-lift in recent months. The roof is now complete on the Grange End (which houses the away fans) and work has began on the Bob Bank lower terrace, the shop has it's new walls and there are boxes being built at the back of the Canton Stand, something that was started years ago and never finished. Add to this that the computer, phone and electric supply to the club has been upgraded along with new kitchen, bars and restaurants that have been built and you do wonder when we will exactly move to a new ground.
Visiting supporters are allocated a section of the Grange End. John Lewis a Cardiff fan says 'I just thought I would write and tell you that the Grange End terrace that houses the away fans now has a new roof. Although away fans will still go here the sterile area has been made smaller allowing more Bluebird fans on to the terrace'
For the future...
For the last ten years the bay area of Cardiff has been totally rebuilt from docks and industry to housing and leisure. At the start of this work Cardiff City, Cardiff Rugby, Cardiff Devils, and the swimming and athletics clubs were continually promised new venues at a huge 'sporting village' to include all this and more. The council have dragged their heels to such an extent that the Devils have now had to leave the super league because their rink is too small to generate enough cash to compete.
A new stadium for the Bluebirds has long gone unmentioned in the bay until the arrival of Hammam but now he is starting to push the boat out. After looking, with the help of the council, it apparently came down to two sites.
Directions to Ninian Park
From The M4
Exit the M4 at Junction 33, and join the A4232 following the signs for Cardiff. Leave the A4232 at the second exit. Keep in the left hand lane, as this joins Leckwith Road. Follow Leckwith Road to the traffic lights and then turn right into Sloper Road. The ground is on your left.
There are regular trains running from Cardiff Central Railway station to Ninian Park Railway Station, which is about a quarter of a mile from the ground.
Local Area around Ninian Park
Away fans are advised to park in the Athletics' Stadium car park, opposite Ninian Park.
John Lewis (Cardiff fans) says 'In your directions you quite rightly say to turn right at the lights for the ground but what you do not say is that the car/coach park is in fact the right turning about 500yds before the lights. This is the turn for the athletics stadium but has a filter lane for the car/coach park. After parking you only have to cross the road for Ninian Park. The only problem parking here is that there is only one way in/out and so it does become VERY congested after matches. There is not much choice though as all nearby streets are residents parking only'
