Our Impressions of War Memorial Sports Ground
The ground itself is a decent ground, with a nice covered end and a spectacular-looking covered terrace. There is also a neat looking main stand. Behind the far goal however is uncovered, so a coat might be advisable if it looks like raining. Most of the fans are pleasant but it is advisable to keep your head down when you walk along the side terrace.
The ground is not of a bad standard and I believe that the club want to carry out development work to get it up to Conference standard. I also understand however that these plans are in jeopardy due to the opposition of local allotment owners!
I was however impressed with other general aspects of the ground, such as the pitch, which was very good considering the adverse weather at the time, and the music played over the tannoy system.

Directions to War Memorial Sports Ground
From the M25
Exit the M25 at junction 8, and follow the signs for the A217. Continue on the A217 through Lower Kingswood, Kingswood, Burgh Heath, Banstead, until you reach the Rose-Hill roundabout. At this roundabout, turn right into Wrythe Lane, and then continue for approx. 1.5 miles. Just before the railway bridge, turn right into Colston Avenue. The ground is approx. 150 yards along Colston Avenue, on the right hand side. There is a private road that leads to stadium and car park.
The nearest station to the ground is Carshalton which is a 5 minute walk from the ground. The 157 & 151 buses go past the Wrythe Recreation ground while the S3 bus goes along Colston Avenue, past the ground (...but beware, only up to about 7.30pm).
You can also take the 726 bus (destined for Heathrow) which passes through Carshalton. It starts in Bromley, and also goes through Croydon. Alight on the High Street, walk along past the lake and turn right up West Street, opposite the petrol station.
Local Area around War Memorial Sports Ground
Carshalton is a fairly nice place. You're unlikely to encounter many problems in the area, although not many local people I met didn't seem to know where Colston Avenue is! It's quite a smart, suburban area.
