Our Impressions of Alwyns Lane

As you enter through the turnstiles, you are in the corner of the ground. To the right, behind one goal, are toilets and the tea bar. The toilets are OK but not anything special. The teabar similarly is friendly but basic.

Down one side of the ground is standing room, with a cover reaching perhaps two-thirds of the pitch length. Opposite, there is a stand which straddles the halfway line. Plastic seats and wooden floor. On this side also are the changing rooms and the bar/committee room. The fourth side of the ground has open standing room behind the other goal, with the ubiquitous mobile phone mast attached to one of the floodlights..

The club had just been relegated when I visited, and the ground has a fairly run-down feel, but the fans are very friendly and there is a nice homely feel to the club. For night games, be aware that trains back to London are not that frequent.

Directions to Alwyns Lane

By Rail

The ground is around ten minutes walk from Chertsey station. From London trains, turn left out of the station onto Fox Lane North, and continue along there onto New Road. There are several signs for 'football and cricket club' which may be noted along the walk. When you get up to a couple of small roundabouts, DO NOT turn left along Riversdell Close; it's a no through road. You will be able to see the ground, but not get in!! (Grr!) Instead, stay on Guildford St., and walk to its end, then turn left. This is a main street-London St to the right, and Windsor St to the left. Alwyns Lane is the second left as you walk down Windsor St., and the ground is down on the left. Data supplied by Stephen Murphy - 18th April 2003
