Our Impressions of Strathclyde Homes Stadium

In December 2000 Dumbarton FC made the short but historic move from their infamously-named Boghead Park to the new purpose built Strathclyde Homes Stadium.

Nestling at the base of the town's ancient and imposing landmark Dumbarton Rock the new home really does see the club fully live up to its 'Sons Of The Rock' nickname. Known universally as 'The Rock', the new ground is in a magnificent setting at the confluence of the Rivers Clyde and Leven and affords wonderful views of distant Ben Lomond and the surrounding Kilpatrick Hills.

The development consists at the moment of a single full-length cantilever stand of capacity 2100, although the aim is to erect a second stand opposite in due course. Visitors will find a reasonably good selection of souvenirs for sale in the club shop in the foyer and the usual fast food outlets are in place in the concourses on match days.

For season 2002/03 the match day programme and official website are being produced for the club by The Sons Supporters Trust. Midweek visitors will generally be given a short tour on request and for the enthusiast the display cases in the foyer house some interesting memorabilia. This season 'Sons' compete in Division 2 of the SFL; unless the fixture is a particularly important one payment on the day will suffice but tickets can be reserved by calling 01389-762569.

Directions to Strathclyde Homes Stadium

Getting Here

Getting to the Strathclyde Homes Stadium is fairly straightforward. Railway stations Dumbarton East and Dumbarton Central are an equidistant walk of about 8-10 mins, with the ground lying at the end of Castle Road which runs off the busy Glasgow Road. The Rock does tend to dominate the skyline at in the East end of the town, so if all else fails head in its general direction!
