Our Impressions of Hilton Park

The ground (current capacity 10,000 - although 31,224 is the record for a rugby match) was originally built when the rugby club moved across town in 1947 and has seen better days. Planning approval is being sought (March 2003) for a new 12,000 seater shared football/rugby stadium as part of a major sports/education/retail/leisure/housing development on the edge of town which has the backing of the local council. Current plan is to have it ready for use in three years.

Keith Peacock has e-mailed us, and says 'The stadium has always been utilised by Leigh Rugby League and it shows in its poor appearance. There is a bit of cover should the elements turn nasty, in the main stand and a smaller stand opposite, with a roof that covers partially standing spectators. Behind both goals the terracing is open (no cover) and segregation is not in force.'

Car Parking

Usually on B&Q car park (directly in front of Hilton Park) or over the by-pass road on the large Asda car park. There is parking available for just a few cars at the entrance to the ground (down cinder pathway) and also street parking.
The best place to park is in Kirkhall Lane. To find this, continue past the ground and it's one of the roads on the right.
