Our Impressions of Moss Rose Ground

Megan Farrant (aged 13) from Somerset, went to this ground for the first time, and has sent us the following review 'The Moss Rose itself is quite a small ground, but the atmosphere was good. The only thing I will complain about is that the terracing for away fans is not covered and there is only a limited amount of indoor seating. I also found that you were very close to the pitch and players which was very useful as I was able to get lots of autographs. Your site was very helpful. Thanks a lot.'

Chris Dale, whole has been a Macc fan for over 40 years, has e-mailed us and says 'Together with the current away terrace a new stand and leisure facility are to be built on the site. Your fan from Somerset will be pleased to know that when the work is completed, away fans are due to be moved to the opposite end of the ground (Star Lane End) which has covered seating and standing.'

Directions to Moss Rose Ground

By Road

From M6

Exit the M6 at junction 19, and join the A556. Travel for approx. half a mile and then turn left onto the A5033. When in Knutsford follow signs for the A537 (signposted Macclesfield). Once in Macclesfield, at the Broken Cross roundabout, go straight over into Chester Road for approx. one and a half miles. Go past the Fire Station, and at the next roundabout turn left, following the signs for the Town Centre. Travel along Cumberland Street, past the King's School, down the hill and then right into London Road at the large roundabout (A523 Silk Road, towards Leek). The Ground is about a mile & half down this road on the right.

From the South

Take the M6 Junction 17 (Sandbach), follow A534 to Congleton, then A536 to Macclesfield. Go past the Rising Sun Pub and immediatley after the Texaco Garage, turn Right into Moss Lane.

By Train

Macclesfield station lies on the main London to Manchester railway line, and is well served by both Intercity and local commuter services. There are trains to and from Manchester Piccadilly at frequent intervals until about 8pm. Macclesfield railway and bus stations are located very close to each other (you can see one from the other).

By Bus

The Number 9 bus runs from Macclesfield bus station through the town centre to the Moss Rose. Buses run approximately every twenty minutes during the day but are much less frequent during the evening - it may be worth getting a taxi. The bus fare from the town centre is about 70p.

Local Area around Moss Rose Ground

Car Parking

The club car park is for players, etc, but there is ample back street parking. If you're not bothered about walking a couple of hundred yards, a safer place to park your car would be at Lyme Green Retail Park, which is about 250 yards South of the ground down London Road.

Pubs Near Moss Rose Ground

The Star Inn

This pub is about 150 yards South of the ground, between the Moss Rose and Lyme Green Business/Retail Park. The Star Inn is a small friendly pub which serves Marston's ales, and serves them rather well - the Pedigree is recommended.

The Sun Inn

The Sun Inn is about half way between the Railway Station and the Moss Rose, and gets a mention due to it's wierd and wonderful selection of drinks. Yes, the Sun is a real-ale house, and it's selection normally includes something excessively intoxicating (I once had a 9.5% alcohol pint there...)

The Golden Lion

The Golden Lion is situated down Moss Lane, about a quarter of a mile away from the ground. It's a fairly big pub, and it serves fairly good Tetley's bitter. Some people like the Golden Lion, some don't, it seems to be a matter of personal taste.
