Our Impressions of Cellnet Riverside Stadium

This ground opened in August 1995, and at the time was famed for the time it took to build... a mere 32 weeks!!! Similar in designs to Derby's Pride park and Sunderland's Stadium of light, and is another totally new stadium, therefore the facilities are excellent.

The capacity is currently set at 35,100, and the traveling fans will find themselves located in the south stand.

By Road

From The North

Take the A19 and turn left onto the Northern Route (A66) east-bound. Exit the A66 when you see the sign for St Hilda's and take the first left exit off the roundabout. Follow through to traffic lights into Dockside Road. The stadium is on the right hand side.

From The South

Take the A19 all the way to Middlesbrough, until the junction with the A66, south of the River Tees. Turn right onto the Northern Route and follow for two miles. Exit the A66 when you see the sign for St Hilda's and take the first left exit off the roundabout. Follow through to traffic lights into Dockside Road. The stadium is on the right hand side.

From The West

Take the A66, crossing the River on the Tees Bridge, and follow round to the Northern Route, eastbound. Exit the A66 when you see the sign for St Hilda's and take the first left exit off the roundabout. Follow through to traffic lights into Dockside Road. The stadium is on the right hand side.

By Rail

Middlesbrough station is under a mile from the ground. To walk it, come down the steps and turn left, avoiding the ticket office. Turn right, and go straight at the crossroads towards the Bridge pub in Bridge Street East. Turn right into Windward Way and you will see the ground.

By Bus

Numbers 36, 37 and 38 run from the bus station to North Ormesby. Take the underpass from here to the ground.

Car Parking


There is no parking at the ground, but there are plenty of places in Middlesbrough to leave your car and walk...

The Sainsburys on Denmark Street has a pay-and-display which is not just for the customers. (Take 2nd exit from A66, after roundabout turn right.)

The Bretnall car park has cheap all-day parking on the top floors. (Take 2nd exit from A66, after roundabout turn right. Go straight over at the lights and turn left at the next lights.)

There is street parking in the streets around Queen's Square. (Take 2nd exit from A66, after roundabout turn left. Go over the lights into North Road. At the next lights by the station turn left into Queen's Square.)

The pub is located on Morton Road, and has been recommended by load of our users as a great family pub, as an added bonus, it's located across the road from the McDonalds and the Pizza Hut. Andrew Brightly has described this pub as 'not too bad'.

The Navigation

This is nearest pub to the ground, and is about 10 mins walk from the away end. Unfortunately it's got the 'no away supporters' sign up therefore it's your lookout!
