Our Impressions of London Road Ground

The covered Norwich & Peterborough Stand runs along the southern side of the pitch with a row of executive boxes separating the two tiers. The covered Main Stand runs along the north side.


At each end of the pitch there are covered standing terraces - the London Road Terrace at the west end with the Moyes Terrace at the east end.


Away fans (up to 850) are located in block A of the seated Main Stand (near the Moyes Terrace end). Most fans have unimpeded views of the pitch. If a large number of Away fans are expected, the Moyes Terrace (capacity 3,475) is opened. It has a good atmosphere but views of the pitch are obscured by five supporting pillars and the gap at the back lets in cold winds.


Toilets are small, down narrow corridors but - unusually for most lower-league grounds – the sinks have hot water!

Directions to London Road Ground

By Road

From the North / North West

Exit the A1 at its junction with the A47, and follow the signs to Peterborough. On the outskirts of the City you will see the Travelex / Churchill building (with two bright signs visible from the A47), on your right. Exit the A47 here turning right onto Nene Parkway. Exit Nene Parkway at the Oundle Road roundabout, turning left. Continue along Oundle Road, going straight over the traffic lights. Towards the end of Oundle Road you will see the London Road Ground in the distance to your right. From the East Arriving on the A47 at the outskirts of Peterborough you will eventually reach a roundabout where the A47 becomes Soke Parkway. Continue on the A47 heading in the direction of Leicester and take the fourth exit turning left onto Nene Parkway. Then follow the above directions - 'From the North / North West'.

From the West

Arriving at the outskirts of Peterborough on the A605, go straight over the A1 junction roundabout onto Fletton Parkway. Take the third exit off Fletton Parkway onto Nene Parkway. Then follow the above directions - 'From the North / North West'.

From the South

Exit the A1 at its junction with the A15. Stay on this road (London Road) ignoring a dual carriageway signposted City Centre off to the left at a roundabout (McDonald’s nearby). You will reach the ground on the right.

By Rail

Peterborough's train station is situated on the fringe of the city centre, adjacent to the Queensgate Shopping Centre, and is about a 15 minutes walk to the ground. On exiting the station on the approach road, you will see an underpass on your right, follow the signs to Bourges Boulevard. Eventually you will come to a normal sidewalk, continue walking down Bourges boulevard toward the city centre, passing the Rivergate (ASDA) shopping centre on your right. In the city centre turn right at the traffic lights and continue down Bridge Street over the River Nene Bridge towards the London Road Ground which is located on your left over the bridge.

Local Area around London Road Ground

The City Centre, across the River Nene to the north of the ground, has a range of shops plus a magnificant cathedral. Around the ground, there are a number of fast food outlets, car parking and a residential street.


Car Parking


There is a pay and display car park at the ground but with only one exit it can take time to leave after well-attended matches. There is also car parking in the surrounding streets.

Disabled Facilities at London Road Ground

Disabled parking is located at the Moyes End car park, free to disabled match-day attendees. There is also free parking for blue badge holders in the City Council car park at the front of the stadium.


Away fans in wheelchairs are located at pitch level in front of the Moyes Terrace, near the Main Stand, with easy access up a small ramp. However there are no seats for carers and no toilets or catering facilities nearby. Being at the front of the Moyes Terrace means that when it rains from most directions, disabled wheelchair fans get wet.

Pubs Near London Road Ground

The Brewery Tap

Located in the old labour exchange in Westgate in the City Centre, not far from the station, the ‘Tap’ is the home of Oakham Ales. It’s spacious, has a large Sky TV screen and offers a great range of beers (CAMRA awards), snacks and Thai food.

Charters

This former Dutch barge is moored on the River Nene to the south west side of the Town Bridge on the London Road between the ground and the City Centre. It’s a beer lovers paradise with 12 cask ales and around 500 guest ales a year. It has a friendly atmosphere with a large beer garden along the river, wonderful on sunny matchdays. For the hungry, there’s a restaurant on the upper deck offering Japanese, Thai, and Chinese food.

The Cherry Tree

On the Oundle Road, the Cherry Tree is popular with both home and away fans. It’s a small pub and can get crowded.

The Palmerston Arms

On the Oundle Road, the Palmerston Arms is a traditional pub offering a great range of resident and guest cask real ales. A glass wall reveals the workings of the cellar. The 'Palmy' has been voted Pub of the Year by the local CAMRA branch on three occasions.

The Peacock

On the London Road, the Peacock is opposite the ground. As the nearest pub, it gets very busy on matchdays.
