Our Impressions of Greens Meadows Stadium
Our reviewer described this ground as 'neat & tidy'. There is a small covered seated stand, which hold around 200, and is occupied on a first come first served basis. There is also a cover standing area, which holds around 100. The other sides of the ground and unbanked, and offer standing only. The biggest attendance at the ground was 1400, which was 2 years ago when Stowmarket played a friendly against Ipswich Town.
The clubhouse is impressive, and must be one of the largest in this league, it's not the newest though. Guests here are always welcome. We visited this ground on a non match day, and found 2 hardy grounds men trying to treat the rather water-logged pitch. They were most helpful, and allowed us to have a good look round.
This majority of the above information was supplied with thanks to the most famous groundsmen in the Jewson League.... Ron Chrysell. Ron is a real non-league football character, and one Stowmarket fans described him us as 'an old chap about 5'6' normally wearing a club tie and best known for his in-game shouts of ANYWHERE, and just generally winding up the away players, crowd and management.' Sounds like a true non-league football hero to us!
Directions to Greens Meadows Stadium
This ground must be the easiest to find in the Jewson league... Exit the A14 at the junction with the A1308, which is just after the Tothill Services and Narey's Garden Centre. Continue down the slip road, and under the bridge (underneath the A14). The ground can been seen once you are through to the other side of the bridge. At the roundabout take the first left, and the stadium is the first entrance on the left hand side.
Stowmarket is served primarily by trains running from Norwich to London Liverpool Street, with the addition of some local services running from Ipswich to Cambridge/Peterborough. To get to the ground from the station, exit the station and turn left into Station Road. Continue past the car sales, and the VW garage to the traffic lights. At this junction, turn right into Gipping Way. Follow Gipping Way until the roundabout, and take the second left into Bury Road. Continue along Bury Road, passing the caravan centre, and the Stadium is situated on the right hand side.
Local Area around Greens Meadows Stadium
There is an adequate car park for the ground, and the club also makes arrangements for an overflow car park for big games.
The majority of cash machines in Stowmarket are located in the town centre. The usual saviour of a supermarket near the ground is not even present, and the Tesco's is the other side of town. Remember.... don't forget your cash, or it's a pain to get some here!!!
