Our Impressions of The Oval

The ground is currently named The AMP Oval (after their sponsors, an Australian financial service company).

Current capacity 19,000 but rising to 23,000 for the 2004/05 season with major redevelopment of the Vauxhall End, which will reduce the capacity to approx 6,000 during the work.
Construction work will have no impact on the club's primary facilities at The Pavilion End of the Ground (The Bedger Stand,The Members Pavilion, The Lock & The Laker Stands)

History Of Ground
On land leased from the Duchy of Cornwall, originally a Cabbage patch & Market Garden The Montpelier Cricket Club of Walworth was granted a lease in 1845 for 31 years, SCCC was formed in the same year. The original turf cost ?300.
The First England Vs Australia 'Test' match took place at the Oval in 1880.

Directions to The Oval

By Road

From the North

Edgware road A5 follow signs to Marble Arch, then A202 Park Lane to Grosvenor Place, then follow signs to Vauxhall Bridge. After passing over the Thames, go under the railway bridge and turn right into Harleyford Road for Kennington and The Foster's Oval.

From the East

Take the A202 heading for Kennington.

From the South

M25 take junctions 6, 7, 8 or 9 and then A22, A23, A24 or A243 and follow signs for Central London, then follow signs for Kennington and The Foster's Oval.

From the West

M3, M5 or A23 or A24 follow signs for Central London, then Kennington or as directions for North.

By Underground

Take the Northern Line from the City or Central London to the Oval tube station. The main entrance to the ground is 100 yards to your left on leaving the station. Kennington station (Northern Line) and Vauxhall station (Victoria Line) are also within walking distance.

By Rail

Take South West Trains to Vauxhall station which is a short walk from the ground. The station is well served by trains from throughout Surrey and Hampshire as well as from the Greater London area. Connections include Clapham Junction and Waterloo.

By Bus

Route numbers 36 and 185 stop outside the ground. The following buses either pass The Foster's Oval or set down within a 5 minute walk of the ground 3, 109, 133, 155, 159. For further information please contact London Travel Information on 020 7222 1234.

Street parking is very limited and the nearest public car park is at Vauxhall Bridge, a 10-minute walk from the ground. Surrey CCC cannot accept liability for damage to or theft from vehicles howsoever caused.
